I agree with everything that Mickey and Kelly have said. I wonder if it's useful to ask remote workers (and their managers) to sign a brief statement of trust, one that explains what it means and articulates how each party in the relationship can enact and energize trust. I'm thinking of simple things like knowing it's okay to ask for help. Some teams in my organization have done something vaguely similar to this, and I think it's been well received.
