The James Webb Space Telescope has shattered the boundaries of space science. Scientists find themselves rewriting the books of our understanding, reevaluating assumptions, and revolutionizing practices. The landscape of space science has been forever transformed.
The arrival of A.I. and ChatGPT in Learning and Development (L&D) is like the James Webb Space Telescope. It is revolutionary. It is groundbreaking. It presents enormous opportunities to transform our ways of helping learners learn. A.I./ChatGPT forces us to rethink and redefine the way we train people. We can now truly expand our workers’ and learners’ capacities with personalization, self-mentoring, gaining insights from massive knowledge, making them problem solvers, learning to impact work, and many others.
As learning designers and L&D specialists, A.I./ChatGPT fundamentally changes how we do our work. We can now get A.I./ChatGPT to do much of the brute and rudimentary work and reduce the costs drastically, while we focus on improving productivity and quality design in helping our workers.
The challenge, however, is to find the proverbial “needle in the haystack.” Where do we start, what is our focus, and how do we create immediate results from our A.I./ChatGPT applications? How do we develop new skills and how do we discover new personal rewards and advancement? This is what the workshop is all about.
Workshop Objectives
In the workshop, you will learn to:
Session Topics
Challenge: ChatGPT, a monumental leap in technology in the last 50 years, has opened up a world of unlimited information covering humanity's collective knowledge. But amid this boundless opportunity, a crucial challenge emerges: How can we effectively guide learners in this new reality? Answer: Think smarter than the machine and design learning that ensures ChatGPT supports your objectives.
Objectives: In our arsenal of evidence-based learning sciences, what do we delete, append, and edit? Should we discover new ones that support ChatGPT-assisted learning? What are transformational learning design opportunities driven by ChatGPT? What can you apply today?
Applications: In the application aspects of the workshop, you will map the impacts of ChatGPT to ADDIE, SAM, Workflow Learning, Microlearning, Coaching, and key methods. You will also prepare investigation techniques to use ChatGPT; Identify immediate and long-term gains and risks that are not worth taking; Get a layman’s view of A.I., LLMs (Large Language Models), and ChatGPT.
Challenge: No, you can not stop all your projects and focus on using ChatGPT alone. However, you can selectively integrate ChatGPT in strategic or quick-win initiatives to potentially yield remarkable results.
But how do you develop your own discovery process? How do you find the fit? What questions do you ask yourself? Clue: Think like a scientist in your own lab. You test and experiment. At the core of ChatGPT is a constant, iterative, fast reinvention of self.
Objectives: How to develop your own discovery method using experimentation? How do you match your learning objectives with the right ChatGPT solution? How do you uncover savings, speed, deeper learning, and solutions in your learning plans? How do you test the 15 ChatGPT Learning Models? How do you sell to stakeholders?
Applications: In the application aspects of the workshop, you will review the 15 ChatGPT Learning Models. These are live examples you can touch and test and be inspired with. You will preview the video guide and instructions. You will also receive templates for conducting your own testing using the 15 models. You have the option to do a micro project using the models.
The 15 ChatGPT Learning Models
Challenge: Imagine creating a lesson in just 10 minutes which would normally take two hours to complete. Using ChatGPT is a valuable tool for accelerating the learning process and promoting problem-solving skills. But the challenge, however, is not reducing cost or increasing the speed of production. It is to drastically change our authoring science and practice into reflection, application, and problem-solving. ChatGPT is a powerful tool for helping learners solve problems.
Objectives: How to reduce time and increase the speed of production using ChatGPT? What ChatGPT plugins and widgets accelerate this 10X Faster Lesson Creation? How to change the strategy of your learning programs to solve business problems and create impact? How do you find the biggest impacts of your lessons?
Applications: In the application aspects of the workshop, you will access a series of ChatGPT methods to meet the goals of 10X Faster Lesson Creation. You will obtain a scripted series of steps to implement a prototype and small project applying 10X Faster Lesson Creation.
Challenge: Learners are now engaging in meaningful conversations with algorithmic text models. ChatGPT is smart, gracious, and even funny. But they don’t think. But remember, they don’t think. They are good at conversations and organizing knowledge. It is still in the learners' capacity to fully utilize ChatGPT, which is dependent on how they think through the work problem and objectives. Learners must then have to articulate this thinking into prompt questions so they can have effective conversations with ChatGPT.
Objectives: What is the A.I., ChatGPT, and Large Language Models (LLMs) algorithm that enables them to have conversations with people? What is Prompt Engineering and what is its role in the conversations? What can we leverage in the learning design method that is close to Prompt Engineering? How do you create and test prompt questions that meet the learning goals of your lessons and problem-solving?
Applications: Apply a decision tree map on how to create and test prompt questions. Investigate how to use different types of prompt questions to accelerate learning and problem-solving. Align prompt questions, conversations, and ChatGPT responses to meet your learning goals. Obtain the 250 ready-to-use prompt questions to solve learning by problem-solving.
Challenge: While many optimists believe that AI ChatGPT has the potential to bring positive impacts, it’s also crucial to acknowledge the risks and damages associated with this technology. Unreliable content, biased ideas, and copyright infringement are a few to mention. However, enterprise and organizational ChatGPT-aided learning programs can install guard rails to reduce the risk and damage.
Objectives: What sample rules and policies can you apply? How to check if learners’ scope of conversations with ChatGPT leads to meeting learning objectives? How to increase the reliability of the knowledge from ChatGPT? How to use ChatGPT narrative models of learning validation?
Applications: Check a list of strategies to limit liabilities posed by ChatGPT. Build an evaluation and validation process for learning when using ChatGPT. Use a formula to confine ChatGPT within your learning objectives. Add Responsible Design aligning ChatGPT knowledge with learning design, accuracy, and ethical standards.
Challenge: The good thing about ChatGPT is the aggressive innovation and reiteration by the large provider companies. Improvements come in daily. There is an abundance of novel solutions that we can test and experiment often and constantly. A.I./ChatGPT will be in all facets of business operations. So instead of change happening by trickles or gradual steps, we could see massive and immediate adoption.
Objectives: How do we reinvent, retire, replace, insert, attach, fulcrum, and pivot learning design using ChatGPT? How to determine what will replace or make room for in your learning design?
Applications: Creating a beta, proof-of-concept, or minimal viable product using one or two of the ChatGPT 15 Learning Models. Follow the beta development template. One-on-one mentoring with Ray and facilitators on your beta project. Reviewing the landscape of learning platforms and their adoption with ChatGPT.
