What do I want to change, fix, or improve? What’s the expected/desired outcome?
The customer is getting hot under the collar when, every time the CSR encounters an item without a barcode, she calls for help from a manager. This turns a two minute transaction into a ten minute marathon! How can the CSR efficiently and effectively process non-barcoded items in the POS system?
What do I know about this? How should I proceed?
Fruits and vegetables are the most common non-barcoded items in a grocery store. Codes do exist on stickers on the items and pictorial job aids are in place that CSRs can use to enter the items into the POS system. However, the job aids are from 8 months ago and many of the codes have changed.
Problem solving checklist for no barcode:
CSR identifies an item with no barcode
Check for other identifying stickers or numbers
Cross reference items with provided job aid
Enter item into POS system
How do I know if it is done right?
Items will be entered properly into the POS system and transaction time will be reduced.
